I was under my truck about 5 minutes ago fiddling with stuff and decided to check my transfer case fluid. I Pulled the fill plug and about 2 quarts of fluid came gushing out..Is this normal? I thought it was only supposed to be filled to the very bottom of the fill plug hole...And the only way I can think of filling it any more is to flip the whole truck up on it's nose and filler' up!!! lol.... What do I do?

Ok, another question...Is the t-case connected (meaning fluid sharing/flow) to the transmission? If I remember right, the last time I took the unit out of the truck and had it rebuilt, I saw a seal around the output shaft that prevented fluid flow into the adapter going to the t-case, but can someone re-assure me?

Anyway, I just mopped up the (roughly)2.5 quarts of fluid and took her for a drive around the block and then down to Texaco to check the tranny fluid. I'm about a half quart lower on tranny fluid than I was two nights ago(last time I checked it)...What the hell have I done? It seems to shift better and go into and out of 4x4HI and Low alot smoother...Make any sense??? I'm transmission ignorant... Think I'm hurtin anything? Thanks in advance for answers to my questions....

Your 1356 should not have been that full. The only way I can think this would have happened is if the two-way seal at the t-case input failed and let tranny fluid in. No, the tranny and t-case do not share fluid. Still, your tranny should have been much lower than .5 quart. I'd drive it for awhile and keep an eye on it.

I had the same thing happen on my 96F150 AT 302. I had about 2 quarts overfilled in my T-case. I found out that they revised the input shaft seal. So I pulled the case and replaced the seal. The old seal came out fairly easily. Punched 2 holes in the seal, and then pryed it out. Used a large socket and gently drove the new one in. It has been 6 months, no cross flow problems. How I noticed was, that I kept losing tranny fluid, it wasn't leaking anywhere on the ground so I checked the T-case.
