Well heres the quick story. We were at the beach for mothers day and my father in law got stuck in his chevy on w/ 9inch of lift and super swampers. He blew out his front diff trying to pull himself out of a hole. So i hooked up to the front of his truck to pull. Well I had to backup and might have given a little to much gas to pull myself out of my ruts. Went right to the brake and endend up sliding on the seawead right into his big cattle gaurd bumper. Tailgate is trashed. Called ford and its $707 just for the primered tailgate. Nothing else. I have to take off my cap, emblems, lock, camera and put it on the new one after it gets painted. Im thinkin I might just upgrade to the step tailgate as its only $750.
1st off, sorry to hear you trashed a brand new truck, 2nd, did you get him out? 3rd, maybe you should bill GM cause it was their pos that got stuck in the first place. lol
Yes I did get him out. Had to move to the back to pick his truck up out of the sand. I've been looking around and found some for around 350 but not the right color. My step dad does paint and body so painting it is not an issue
Regardless its a Chevy, does anyone else find it pretty cool his father in law has 9" lift on his truck with Swampers? I do My FIL drives a stock pos 97 GMC Jimmy, S-10 sized one
Thanks. He has a 6in suspension and 3in body on 35-10.5 swampers. Mainly his dearlease and beach truck. 01 chevy ext cab step side 5.3l with straightpipes 45'ed out the back. 2 12" subs in a probox to go along with it. He really busted up his front diff trying to get himself out though.
Try ebay or Craigslist for a take off. I backed into a tree and bent my tailgate. Looked on ebay and there was a company here in the Dallas area that has take offs. I paid $400 and all I had to use from tailgate was the camera and handle had all the badging on it.
i just have to tell you a funny story that goes hand in hand with this!
mothers day weekend my brother in law (big Chevy fan) asked me to give him a ride to the Chevy dealer to look at trucks. after much debate i told him i would and did. as we get out of my 2010 F150 a Chevy sales guy says why are you to here? you already have the best dame truck on the market. i told him my brother in law wanted to see what clueless people drive. we test drove a 2012 with a 6.2 and tow package ltz (fully loaded)
we no more and jump out and my brother in law (the big Chevy fan) says hell lets go across the street to the ford dealer and see some real trucks. to make a long story even longer. my brother in law picks up his new Ford F150 Eco boost on Friday when it gets here from somewhere down south! and we went buy the Chevy dealer in the truck we test drove the guy who helped up gave us a thumbs up and told use we where making a good choice! lol
just an FYI. The step is priceless, I'm not short, but i've used it more times than i can count. On the other hand, the handle, in my opinion, is a pain in the butt. Every time i try tried to slide something in the bed it would get caught on the darn handle. After getting a spray in liner with the step tailgate, i removed the plastic cover, removed the handle and got the flat panel off a non step tailgate from the dealership, and i am much happier, now all i have to do is get the tailgate sprayed to match the rest of the truck.
In the district I work we've had 4 tailgates stolen in 2 months. The scrap dealers give $20 for the metal, and they resell it for $350 - $400. Three were Chevy's and one was a Ford. Chevy's must be easier to get off. The best thing is to keep your tailgate locked at all times!
I have a guy thats a 3rd party at my job and his tailgate and taillights were stolen off his 2010 chevy a few months back. Friend of mine had his stolen off his 09 dodge down in freeport last month. I always keep mine locked up.
