what's the best thing to use as the front and rear intake gasket? i've used the rubber gasket supplied and i've also used just gasket sealer. both ways it ends up leaking water. does any kind of gasket sealer work or is there one that works best?
I usually use a good RTV instead of the end gasket but I don't understand how those would leak water??? You must be not getting a good seal on the intake gasket itself. My personal preference is to use spray on Hi-Tack on the head and let it set up then glue the gasket on the head to hold it in place, but not so much because it needs the sealer. Gaskets are made to seal and really shouldn't ever need extra sealer if installed properly.
Also there are at least 2 different sizes of water passage and a later intake on real early heads will leave a gap that won't seal. Right now I have an 88 intake I am putting on a 260 and had to do some weld up and machine work to get the coolant ports matched up for a seal.
