How dose the CDR come out of the 6.9L? Dose it just pull out or is it bolted in.

it looks to me like it pulls out of the intake gasket, i think there is a grommet that kinda screws in and the cdr just pops in i think, but i'm not certain

Thanks I never had mine out. I'm going to change injection pump, glow plugs and injectors so I guess I need to look at this thing. Just don't want to break it trying to pull it out.

i'm not 100 percent certain so be careful, if your doing all that you may wanna look into some gaskets while its apart, easier when that stuff is out of the way then doing it in 10000 miles and taking it all apart again

ok, from what i've found it just pushes down in the grommet in the valley pan and then bolts to the intake

Kjgibson2, thank you. I'll have to look for that bolt before yanking on it. What gaskets are you talking about? I am replacing the return lines and all.

you don't have to, but you may find it beneficial to pull the heads and intake and replace the head gaskets, intake gasket, and valve cover gaskets while its out, and the glowplugs as well. if your not running the motorcraft glowplugs you will definitely want to try to change them while the pump and injectors are out, and they are notorious for breaking off in the head which means you'll have to pull the head to fish out the pieces, if your tuning up the injection system its going to be alot easier to tune everything up at once instead of trying to do it later on. just my .02

The CDR valve is held on by two bolts that attach to the back of the intake manifold. Remove the two bolts and lift up on the CDR while twisting. Soak it in gasoline for a little while to clean it out.

Don't replace any intake or head gaskets unless you have the engine out of the truck and want to do it for PM or you are having issues with them.

No, the motor is still in the Van so I won't be doing head gaskets and all. Thanks on the CDR, I didn't know much about it. Truck was getting harder and harder to start, and lose on power on the slightest grade. This van set alot over the years, and other then what I said about it, its good. Dose use oil, and the front seal on the trans leaks, and the gauges don't register for fuel right. I need to repair this for work. I've had cancer the last 5 years so I've been out of it, but am getting better now. Thanks you all for your help.
God bless,

Chet

Van? Oh, I pity you. Those are real fun to work on. At least you can access the CDR valve real easy. Usually low power or performance means the injection system is ready to be replaced.

Glad to hear you got over the cancer.

If anything.. oil consumption would add power. 1. Its extra fuel 2. i forget the correct term but oil has more bang than diesel, when i was running 40/60 wmo/#2 my mileage was slightly up.
