I have an 83 F100 I bought new right out of High School. It originally had a 232 V6 with a RUG 4 speed that wouldn't pull the hat of your head. Later I had a friend put in a 302 with automatic tranny from an 83 Thunderbird. It was my primary driver until my divorce 6 years ago. I needed something I could get all my kids in. My son is turning 16 and I am passing the truck on to him. I feel it is impotant for him top learn to drive a standard so my question is, "what would be the best manual transmission for this application?" All I have left from the original transmission is the clutch pedal pinned to the firewall. I am a pretty good electrician but not much experience as a mechanic but I would like to do this job with my son. Any help would be appreciated.
I like the T18 (which these trucks had available to them back then).
A 5-speed would be good but I'm pretty sure it'd require more work & money (they became available from the factory I think in 1987). Although, if all you have is the clutch pedal, it's gonna be somewhat involved, anyway..........
