PCM Removal Help (Resolved)

Okay, so I'm following the procedure that is listed here, and I've got to the part where I have all of the fasteners removed, and I'm trying to get the PCM out. My trouble is that the PCM shows zero signs of wanting to come out. If I try to jimmy it, the studs that the dust boot go on to move in unison with the PCM. Can anybody please help? I already removed the parking brake control lever assembly just in case it was going to be easier to go that route. I haven't messed with it in the cab other than that.

I would really appreciate if somebody could assist me in this endeavor. Thanks in advance.

Is there something that I need to do that was omitted in that procedure that I linked to? This is frustrating...

Edit: There's not a whole lot to grab on to to try to jimmy this thing out. I'm afraid that I'm going to break something if I attempt violent negotiations to try to remove it.

Those instructions are good. You've removed the nuts off of both studs and removed the electrical connector from the PCM, correct? If so, it should slide right out. You can try giving it a nudge out from inside the cab if you want, but it should slide out fairly easily. Make sure you do the part with prying the inner fender out of the way. The PCM will hit the inner fender before you get it out, so you have to pry the fender out while you pull the PCM out.

Yes, I've removed every fastener described in that procedure. The PCM doesn't even try to hit the fender well. It does nothing close to resembling "sliding right out". I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Edit: It does wiggle and it has quite a bit of play in it once I removed the fasteners. However, when I jimmy the PCM, the studs that hold the dust boot move in unison with it. Like if the PCM tilts five degrees to the left, the studs also tilt five degrees to the left. Somehow, the PCM is fixed to whatever holds those studs, I'm guessing. Obviously, if that is the case, it won't be able to slide out. I don't know where it's hanging on whatever those studs are mounted to, though.

Did you remove the "rubber boot" that is covering the PCM? The part that the two 10mm nuts hold down.. If not, that may be binding up and not letting the PCM slide out. Try pulling it off.

Yes. I removed that before I even tried jimmying it out. I have followed that procedure to the letter. I should be on the final step where I remove the PCM through the fender well. I can't get the PCM to slide out of the firewall, though.

I do see some corrosion on the lower corner of the PCM case that is visible from the engine bay. I don't know if that information is relevant or not, but I guess it couldn't hurt to include it.

Corrosion may be holding it in. Trying giving it a good push from inside. Probably just needs to be popped. Trust me, it just slides out. It just must be stuck b/c of the corrosion.

Tried pushing it. Should I whack it? I'm scared to whack a computer.

Can you get a flexible putty knife in there, work it on both sides and separate the PCM from the boot ?

I got it out. That wasn't easy. I had to push it out from the cab. HARD. Rust and other corrosion had basically adhered the case of the PCM to the bracket deal that holds it on. Thanks for helping.

It's on its way to the Tiptons' for reflashing.

Edit: For anybody curious about having their PCM reflashed, this is the deal right here: Click Here!
I'm doing it because my truck was originally equipped with an automatic transmission and I installed a manual transmission.

I have to send mine off to Jody too Joseph. Its been in a box for over a month. That and the chip with tunes is about 8 Franklins. My budget is stretched pretty thin as it is. But oh well its only money.

I believe that a chip will eliminate your need to have your PCM reflashed. I could be mistaken, though.

I'm having it flashed in case the chip ever fails. Going from AB to AC injectors. Split vs single shots. I'm never going to go back to a split shot anyway. That and getting rig of the EBPV codes as mine will be gone. Plus a few little tweaks.
