'72 F250 Running Rough
I'm a newb. Great forum. We just bought a 72 F-250 Ranger - Camper edition with the 390 in it. It only has 92k miles on it and is great shape. So far, it's pretty solid. The engine runs great and no smoke or problems until now. (We've had it about 3 weeks. )
We did an oil and air filter change and used some carb cleaner and it's been running great. Good power, etc.
Lately, while running down the road, it's like its emptying the float bowl or something. Sometimes it backfires through the carb and sputters. It runs, then sputters and is getting worse.
I'm not sure where to start with this. I have some sea foam I can put in it. Any direction I should take? Fuel filter? Water in the gas? Thoughts?
The fuel pump has that oil-filter looking gas filter on it. Any idea where to get the filter for that?
Thanks again!
Shawn
Another liquid fix I have used is call Carb Life. It works the best of all I have ever tried. And I have not tried Seafoam as yet.
Also what I have done is to put a see through filter in line just off the carb by cutting the line there.
Try the new filter first than the Seafoam. But chances are you will prolly have to at the very least but a kit in the carb. Not that the carb is worn out so much as you will need the gaskets to reassemble it after cleaning. These old Rigs are common for gunk getting into the fuel system. The carb kit should be available at your parts store also. Again The Napa stores have a lot more for older rigs than the other O'Riley and Cut Rate Auto Parts type stores have. C.R.A.P Auto I call them.

On edit after reading the last post please tell me ya didn't put on a new gas cap and it is a not vented type?
