I'd like to join the SoCal Chapter. I live in San Diego and I'd love to have some friends in the area to hang out with, even if it's in virtual space. Do I have to be a paying member of FTE? Please lemme know how/if I can join. If I don't get back to ya ASAP it's because I'm outside working on my truck! Take care and thanks, Joe
You can put in a join request by clicking the link in my signature, or by clicking the "join chapter" link beside the forum title above the first post of this thread. That will notify Chapter Leader Sean (wpnaes), who handles all of that stuff for us. There's no cost involved
Thanks all for the warm welcome. These sites are a huge help, but sometimes you need a local to clue you in to the best places to find whatever. Just yesterday I ran across a huge tip I'll pass on in case anyone needs it. I have a '68 F100 Stepside with a swapped 460, and was having a rough time with a vacuum leak in the intake. The S-shaped front and rear seals kept squirting out when I torqued them. Long story short, after two sets of 3-piece gaskets, I called a local speed shop, JBA I believe and asked if they could get other than Fel-Pro gaskets as I suspected they were crappy. The shop guy says to me, "We usually just use RTV as the little S-shaped front and rear seal gaskets slip off when ya torque 'em." I was happy and pissed at the same time because I didn't know this trick and kept trying to get the gaskets to stay on. At least I can smile about it now, and forgive you if you're laughing at me as you read this, but it's been a few years since I turned wrenches. Anyway, I look forward to sharing many more stories and tips with my new brothers and sisters on this site.
Take care and thanks again,
Joe
