marker lights -- they are all gone

All my exterior marker lights went out. The lights on my dually fenders and my clearance lights....all out.

I checked and the fuse is good and there is power at the fuse, but no lights.

according to the manual, on the page titled "Fuse Links and Circuit Breakers", there is an "18 ga fuse link" located in the "L.H. fender".

Anybody know what this "fuse link" located in the fender looks like?

I'd appreciate any help. I've been chasing this damn problem all day and still, guess what: No lights.

Thanks for the help,
Russ

Did you check the headlight switch? They are known to overheat and melt the connector. This could cause your problem as well.

Fusible links basically look like wires. The factory ones seem to have a molded rubber connection where they connect to the regular wires which is marked for the gauge. Trouble shooting them is usually a pain in the *** because unless something went really wrong, you can't just look at it and tell its blown. The only place I know where there is a mess of fusible links, is on the starter solenoid on the passenger inner fender.

I made a mistake, my roof clearance lights are working, but none of the marker lights on the dually fenders or under the tailgate are working.

every now and again, I have to fiddle F with the headlight switch to get the dash and clearance lights to light up, but never do I get the marker lights on the fenders or tailgate.

Does that change anything?

Thanks for the help,
Russ

If you have to fiddle with the headlight switch, replace it, and plan on changing the connector (pigtail) as well.
I'm not sure if that will fix the clearance and marker lights as I don't know how the wiring is all connected. But it can't hurt and doesn't cost much.

Yeah, the headlight switch and most likely the connector have issues. After that, you'll probably need to trace out the wiring for the non-working lights. Do the tailights work? Find on the wiring diagram, or physically on the truck, where the wiring to the problem lights connects to the wiring for working lights. That should help narrow it down...

I would say that since you have power at the fusebox the fusible link is unlikely to be your problem. It is somewhere in the cab or back.

- unless someone crossed wires somewhere

I recently had to deal with a similar issue - caused by a previous owner splicing in power and then hooking the wires back up wrong.

To diagnose a fusable link that has gone bad you can take your wiring harness running along the fender out of its shielding and take each wire separately and quickly tug on it along the length of the fender, one hand by the headlight and one by the firewall, or as spread apart as you can get, a good pull on each wire will tell you which one has a broken link because that wire will stretch extremely far and eventually break where the link has burned up, but like above, check the switch first, and always test it before putting your dash back together. Hope this helps, -Kevin
