Ok i have a 51 f1 and i have new brake cables but when i took the drums off there is nothing left for the brake cable to attach to or anything for the ebrake to work.....any idea where i can get these parts???? Thanks jeff
First, look at the diagram and tell us the part number to the part(s) you're missing.
In the last few months, I've had two other people contact me regarding the missing e-brake parts. I searched for them in NOS and couldn't locate any. The only thing that I was able to find at the local parts store is the spring (2139) and it wasn't a perfect match, but could be adapted to work. If you're missing 2103, 2104 and 2108, then you'll have a hard time finding them new unless you're able to find a close replacement at your local auto parts store, like NAPA or Carquest. I couldn't find those parts in NOS and only had one set in used that was quickly sold to a person in Canada.
Here's the original spring and new close replacement (in blue).
I do have another complete rear end that should have those parts, but I'd be reluctant to part it out just for the e-brake parts.
If you need those parts, then maybe someone on here has them from a rear end they took out to replace with a newer one. You can also start posting want ads on FTE, Ford Barn and the HAMB. You should be able to find the parts.
Hi 51Panelman,
The spring I am looking for is in the cab. It's on the handle which is attached to the emergency brake cable.
Not the spring that returns the release lever, but the spring that locks the rachet-dog thing.
Cheers,and great pics.
I have brand new 2139 like you see in the pictures I posted. 34424-S appears to be a castle nut for the bolt that bolts the backing plate to the housing. You can get that at an auto parts store. I found one 2108 in case you can't find them at Mac's. For 2103 and 2104, I suggest going to your local junk yard(s) to see if they can find something close. Bring your brake shoes with you.
