Awesome forum!
I didn't post, but did a search here on my jumping speedometer problem. When driving I noticed the speedo jumping wildly, usually whenever I hit a bump. It was so bad I thought the needle might break off. Occasionally it would not work at all.
Thru the advice found here I pulled the VSS and cleaned the small amount of gunk on it. Then the speedo didn't work at all, and the tranny would shift violently. While under the rear end, I did notice that the protective cover on the VSS wiring was a bit chewed up. So I removed a section of the covering and there it was--the two leads looked they got caught up in a rototiller! I don't know what happened to them as I had just picked this truck up a short while ago. But replacing about 14 inches of the two leads fixed the problem completely!! And to think I was originally looking for a speedometer cable issue--ha.
Now on to my tranny dipstick and rear fuel pump problems. Thanks again!
