I have noticed nearly all the stepside top rails are angled.Mine are flat and seem to be much rarer. What was the purpose of having two different sides??I have also noticed there seems to be no sheet metal for the flat rails?
I would have to say your bed is not original, some one probably changed it some time in the last 43 years. My 69' now has a 70'-72' style side bed on it, it looks almost identical to the 69' bed, but the bump on the side is a little shorter and it has a side marker light at the rear end of the bump.
What sheet metal do you need? Is it long or shortbed? I have a whole excellent flat top long bed except fenders and the wood strips. Probably mid to late 70s because it was dual tanks.

I bought this truck from the original owner and it has never been wrecked nor modified in any way til I bought it.
That's what they say. It sounds like you might have a dent bed. Not certain. Easiest way to know is to check under the bed for the mounting near the tail. The dents had wider rails in the tail section. The mounting for the bed will reflect that. They will have either drilled new holes in the bed rail or made ears for the original hole to bolt to. I do not know the year they changed the rail top style. I found pics with both types on bumps but that does not mean it hasn't been changed. I would call Riff http://classicfordtrucks.shutterfly.com/ He will know what you have & be able to tell you whatever you need to know.
