Hello I have a 2000 Ranger XLT 4X4 3.0 with 30K Miles--My fuel gauge was jumping up and down so i decided to unplug the fuel sending unit plug connector--I thought maybe the contacts on the plug were bad--anyway--i pluged it back in and started the truck then drove off--About 5 min later the CHECK ENGINE light came on and the code was a P0401.. Could the plug being disconnected then reconnected have anything to do with this?? BTW--THE TRUCK WAS OFF WHEN I DID THIS....
I think it's just coincidence.
A P0401 usually means you need a new PFE sensor and Ford has extended the coverage on them. Take it in to your dealer and see what they say.
Thanks so much for the info! That sensor you are talking about--Is that the sensor that is bolted to the intake with 1 plug and 2 Vac lines attached to it? Looking ath the VAC lines it looks like one or both go to the EGR valve.
