hello all.i have a 06 in my shop that was brought in for what the cust. thought was a failed egr cooler.he stated that he hadnt been loosing any coolant.i tested his coolant system at 30 psi.never lost any pressure.ran a engine running test .during the vgt part of the test i got a pretty heavy oil smoke.i was at the tailpipe and it smelled like rotella oil.so i popedthe turbo off when it cooled down and i found oil around the turbine wheel and in the center of the outlet for the down pipe.so i ordered a new turbo center housing assy and a updated drain tube.reassy it .cleaned the intercooler and did a road test.no smoke after the oil that i used to lube the vgt vains burned off.cust called this morning said the truck started to smoke again.anyone had to get a second or third turbo just to fix a smoking issue?thanks for the input.
It took me at least five wide opens runs up a steep, mile and a half grade to get my truck to stop smoking, and stinking, after my turbo oil seal went out.seems the cat grabs it and wont let the oil go.
