Intake question
So i want to upgrade my stock intake to one that will accept a four barrel carb. I know mine is egr right now. Can I buy one that is non egr? If so what will be the difference's and do i need to remove other parts or just bolt on and go?

Instead of having a an exhaust gas outlet to where the EGR valve would be, the passageways simply cross over to the other side of the block. Probably helps with scavenging anyway. I have a non EGR in my garage, thats how I know.

Can you elaborate? I dont know what you mean by recurving the distributor and by jetting im guessing your talk about the carb? I would be getting a new carb also since i have a 2 barrel and i want a 4 barrel.

EGR is exhaust gas recirculation, which was done to lower NOx emissions (oxides of nitrogen, which contributes to smog). The EGR lets exhaust into the mixture during cruise to lower combustion temperatures, and in turn the NOx. When you eliminate it, the dizzy will need to be slightly recurved for these cruising vacuum instances when your EGR should be open and letting gas in. You will be fine when you switch to a 4bbl, the slightly larger jetting would be necessary in theory for your 2bbl because more of the cylinder is being filled with mixture coming from the plenum. What is your plan for ignition?

Personal opinion... the ignition should be real close as original. Re-curve - changing the spark advance vs RPM inside the distributor - would be more important if changing compression or cam but not so much with just a carb change. The aftermarket 4 bbl will do fine without EGR... but will need tuning for best results. Odds are the new carb - depending on what you start with - will run fine out of the box but will need jet changes for optimum performance and economy.
