Has anyone done this is? it worth the money? are there any real gains? are there any pitfalls ? Its a 1996 explorer fresh rebuild just looking for a little added poop. It runs great but is kind of a turd on the power so guys let me know good or bad
What kind of "chip" are you referring to? A tuner that you plug in to the OBD-II port, save off the factory program, then install an aftermarket tune, or the worthless $0.02 resistors that they sell on eBay for upwards of $60 that just fools the Intake Air Temp (IAT) sensor?
well since the only one I seem to be able to find for it is a jet chip not a tuner but one that you plug into the the computer I guess those ! superchip only goes back to 99 for the explorer
I have a couple of SCT tuners for a couple of my vehicles. The tuner works okay, the magic is in the tunes that are developed or sold by the SCT dealer. The SCT will hold up to 3 custom tunes and the tuner I bought mine through can tailor the tunes to what I wanted (power, shift firmness only, low octane, high octane, etc.).
I do not have experience with JET and had a piggy back Superchip for my '93 Taurus SHO. It was alright, but granted they didn't have quite the control over the engine management that they're able to achieve these days.
