I have a freind who is a mechanic for Yellowstone park and he drives a 6.7l for his shop truck that has a utility box on the back with a welder And tools and other stuff, and he claims that the 6.7 has no power whatsoever. He said it does good in 1st and 2nd gear but when u get to the top end it is a serious dog. Thes trucks he is driving are fleet vehicals and im not sure what the diffrence is between the fleet ones and privatly owned ones if any? What kind of expierience have you guys had with yours while pulling? Do they seem underpowered In the top end?
Jetpilot2 is correct, the cab/chassis versions have 100 HP less than the pickup truck models. Calling either version, be it 300 or 400 HP, underpowered is quite a stretch IMHO.
My '95 Suburban with the 6.5L diesel is underpowered (~190hp/~400ft-lbs tq). My 2000 7.3L (250hp/500ft-lbs tq) is underpowered.
Now Ford's 6.7L, by comparison, is an absolute rocket ship.
One issue he might have is that the truck isn't geared right for what he's doing with it. That's how my old 7.3L IDI mason-dump was. With a 5.11 rear it was great down low, but ran out of steam up top. My newer Dodge dump is the opposite. It's geared too high. Great on the highway, but it really struggles down low with a heavy load.
My 2011 King Ranch is anything but underpowered, in fact it so quick for it's size that it is "Scary" When I'm getting on the interstate it gets out there so damn fast you don't even realize that you just bumped the governor @ 95 MPH, the only complaint I have is that's as fast as it go !!!
I don't remember what this trailer weighed, But the photo is along the Gallaton River in the Western edge of Yellowstone. I don't remember my truck feeling gutless or lacking in power. Even at that elevation

LOL, that's a big problem! Just today, pulled onto the on ramp, put her to the floor, merged onto the hiway, looked down, doing 160 km/hr, put breakes on and carried on at 120 km/hr.......
I don't have any experience with the chasis / cab truck but there are thousands of them around here. Can't immagine they would be so popular if they were under powered! (welders around here like to get to the jobsite and home quickly)
Underpowered is the last thing I would say. Picked a friend up the other day. Not thinking about it I gunned it on a long open road. I let off and slowed for the turn and starting cruising again. My homey said "oh Sh$$, damn this truck can move"
I own one of the underpowered chassis cabs. It will pull the 12,000 lb 5th wheel effortlessly. What you guys do with an extra 100 hp I've yet to figure out. Same 1800 miles with same 5th wheel for eight years. First seven with a 04 F250 6.0 and last year with the F350 6.7. I would not have believed how much easier the new truck pulls the 5th wheel until I experienced it myself.
Something is either seriously wrong with the guys truck, or he is feeding you a bunch of ........
