Question for the audio guys....

Sold a few odds and ends on eBay and was able to raise some funny money. I am going to order the JL Audio C5-570 separates. I'm told I can the mids are a drop in and the tweeters will work in the factory location. My question is how to wire in the crossover. Do I just feed from the factory mid to the crossover and cap the factory tweeter feed?

There is a high pass filter on each of the rear mids that feeds the rear tweeters.
I believe the high pass for the front tweeters are located on the front tweeters.

The front doors will have a Y harness that connects to both the tweeter and mid, just unplug the source feed from this Y harness and feed it to your crossover. The rears will have 2 connectors on the mid itself, one is the source feed and one feeds the tweeter, again just take the source and run it to your crossover, but you might want to use the tweeter wires here as well to feed the new tweeters from the crossover so you don't have to run new wires to the doors.

Thanks guys! I'm only doing the fronts as I have a super cab and am not worried about the rear. It's just fill. If I did anything back there, I would do the C5-570X coaxials, but probably won't bother. I don't suppose anyone knows wire color vs. polarity for the fronts?

Right Front:
+ WH-VT
- WH-OG

Left Front:
+ WH
- WH-BN

Or: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1207105...s.html?tp=1025

So you don't have to cut wires.

Even though you have a super cab, I'd still replace the rear speakers too. They are a piece of crap nd even or fill they are terrible. You'll see what I mean when you ake the fronts out. It'd be worth a hundred bucks foe a decent set of speakers back there too.

Karl, I did the rears as well. Does make a difference, just get speakers that have the tweeter integrated.

Good thread that covers all the options...

Thanks! Looks like that is for a crew cab. I'm guessing you're saying the wire colors will be the same on a supercab? I don't have the rear tweeters, so mine is different than the diagram. Let me know if you think it will be the same.

Why do you need the wire colors? Just use the wires on the back of the speakers.

So I know polarity. Unless the stock speakers have + and - marked on them?

Yes, they make it easy. However Crutchfield wants $499 for the JL separates I am ordering and I can get them elsewhere for $289 delivered. Crutchfield has great info, free adapters, and great customer service. Their prices however, are simply ridiculous. I could see if they were a little more money, it'd be worth it for all they offer. I just can't handle paying almost double.
