rust removal

ok guys i know some of u guys arent to fond of jeeps but ive been working on mine swapping a i6 in place of the 4 banger it had. anyhow i have removed the tub with plans on giving the chassis a little paint. the help i need from u guys is getting some of the rust that has started in the hard to reach places. two main spots that worry me are the rear shock mounts. can i just get a media blaster to do the job or is there something else? here are a few pics of my work so far.

Have you ever tried this? Get all the flaky loose stuff off and paint it with this. My buddy who owns a body shop says it's really good stuff!

Make sure where the rear shackles mount to the frame are in good shape. Common spot for these frames to go bad. That stuff that Bill posted seems to work well.

pressure wash the flaking stuff of. then hit what you can with a wire brush. you don't want to make it shiny clean, just get all the flaking rust scale off.
once dry, give everything a good coating or two with ospho. it is also called jasco from home depot or lowes.
active ingredient is phosphoric acid.
let it dry between coats. i spray it on with a weed sprayer.
you will know when the metal is properly treated, the rust will turn from red to black.
the phosphoric acid converts the rust from iron oxide to iron phosphate.

once completely treated and dry, prime and paint.

that is just mild surface rust, not bad at all. it would be years before it would rust threw. but some of the products the guys above mentioned will work great, and you won't have to worry bout it at all. you should see some of the ohio, michigan, pa vehicles i see and the rust issues, i've seen some scary stuff!

If you have an air compressor. Needle scalers work really well for removing rust. Its like a air hammer but it has a bunch of 1/8" pins instead of one chisel. I bought an ingersolrand one on ebay. You can get in pretty tight spot, go right around bolts they work awsome. I think theres some videos on you tube.
