Getting it cleaned up slowly

Had to clean it up at night in the parking area. I live in Irvine Complex so no working on cars in parking area. Peeled off the door stickers and used some mineral spirits to get the residue off. But it still needs another pass at it and maybe some rubbing compound to get it all off.

Also took off the hokey weird rear window shade. It was some type of stick on that had the business name on it (all faded). Had to scrape it off with a razor, mineral spirits, and some elbow grease. I can now see out.

Put a "For Free" ad for the ladder rack on Craigslist so if you see it, its mine. I'll have a scrap metal guy come next week if I can't give it away.

On another note, I can't figure out how to put the spare tire under the fuel tank. It has 1 arm bar but doesn't it get screwed through the center?? Doesn't look like there's anything there I can secure it with except a bar.

Crossbar has two bolt holes, one on either end. Left (drivers) side bolt passes thru crossbar, then thru hole in frame rail, washer and nut secures it.

Right side uses a J bolt, has a looped end where the lug wrench is inserted to unscrew it. There is a blind nut that slips onto the frame rail that the J bolt threads into.

Crossbar has a center hole, uses a special bolt with a made on washer, so it butts up against the spare wheels center hole. Inside the wheel is a wing nut that retains the spare in place.

You can go to a dealer and view their parts catalog pic, or you can swing on by, as I have the same pic (obviously, cuz that's what these descriptions are from).

I can also locate the missing parts. Whether the parts available or obsolete, the dealer may just shine you on, cuz most in today's world don't wanna mess with old rolling piles of misery.

I can also locate the missing parts, find them at an FTE dealer sponsor that gives parts discounts.
That's awesome. Will have to take you p on that sometime. The crossbar is in there now. I figure I just reverse however it is now and then I can slip the wheel in and screw it all down?

That's what I thought!!

"Crossbar has a center hole, uses a special bolt with a made on washer, so it butts up against the spare wheels center hole. Inside the wheel is a wing nut that retains the spare in place"

Nah, the front is pretty clean. Its the tool cabinets that are pretty rusted. Kids like that though. Took me an hour peeling off the old stickers on the doors. Then mineral spirits and a razor and there is still a slight residue of glue. I'll have to make another pass at it another time. But this weekend, it'll be at a self service car was so I can power hose anything in the bed. And a long overdue oil change. Simple things first, get it to a base level before deciding on a 12 month project.
