What is it worth?

Gentlemen,

I am planning to sell my 7.3 power stroke F-250 king cab and was wondering what you guys think the engine is worth if someone was just buying it for that. I want to move this thing, but don't want to give away an engine that as I understand it, is the best engine around. It has 170K on it and is in good condition overall....needs a few glow plugs, a new oil pan, but other than that, it is in great condition. I originally was going to ask 7k for the truck (that is with a Western snowplow), but I don't know if that would be too much? I want to move it, but not give it away. Any thoughts?

thanks,

Patrick

Yes it should be turbo'd

And by King Cab do you mean it has 4 full doors?
Typically those are known as Crew Cab.
I just ask because sometimes people call the Extended Cab (2 full doors with a half door that has rear padded bench seat) a King Cab.

Depending on the condition I would say 5 or 6k is typical. 7k isnt outrageous by any means, but it depends on what has been done to it and what condition it is in.

By king cab I mean extended cab. The truck is in ok shape...needs some repairs, but for the most part for a northern truck it is in great shape. Plus with the western snow plow it really is a work horse if it needs to be.

As far as any mods, there are none. The only thing I did was add a K&N air filter (not the full system). Other than that, it is stock.

Anyway, sounds like if I ask 6K or so I should be safe....thanks for the input.

I don't too many folks would pay that with a known needed oil pan repair. You have to pull the motor for that.

That is why I asked what the engine value would be. If someone wanted the truck for the engine, then they would be pulling it anyhow. I have heard a wide variety of things as it pertains to that repair. Currently it is slow leak and could possibly have a patch put on it.

True didnt think about the oil pan... thats 2k + for any shop to do it.

I had one shop around here that did it for 1k... but they owed me for some work I did for em a while back. lol

Not sure if just the motor. if its all working and everything included I think Ive seen em go for 900 or so.

You would probably get more out of it as a whole running truck than parting it...
A truck has to be pretty beat up to not be worth more whole than in parts.

That's not bad mileage, around here you could get 5K for it with the plow.
