I have a question for those of you with body shop skills. My truck is a 2003 F250 7.3 crew cab short bed. This thing is my baby and id like to make her last for another 4-5 years. I have some rot over the fenders, not real bad but i want to nip it in the butt. Is it possible for me to buy patch panels, flare the edges and use the 3M panel bond seeing as i cant really weld? I heard its just as strong and it would save me tons of money. Ive looked at buying a take off bed and Im in NH so anybody thats looking for a short bed ford is SOL unless they want to spend top dollar. My plan is to put patch panels above the wheels pull the bed off POR15 the bottom as well as address any other rust problems, POR15 the frame and underside in gloss black and then paint the whole truck. Any thoughts would be great and if im a complete idiot feel free to tell me!
I have not worked with panel bonding but I think that the bonding material is good for attaching whole panels like bedsides. Not sure if it is made for patch work. Might check on 3M's website as they might hace some info on that.
You can get a welder, mask and grinder from harbor freight for about just around $120.. So what if you dont know how, its really easy to learn.. I learned in 1 afternoon, its not pretty but practice makes perfect
