I get a vicious shake in the front end while cruising down the highway, it doesn't start til I hit right around 70mph. Where do I need to look to correct the problem, possible culprits?
Look at all bushings and joints under the front end. Get under there with the truck on the ground and in the air and shake the hell out of everything looking for the culprit. Also check alignment the tire balance.
Rag joint is good, I will get under there and see what I can find. I was under there the other day and didnt see or feel anything loose, but I will have another look.
I originally had a 460 built up with 429 SCJ parts from the cam up in my 68. It had 200 lbs of compression. With a 3.50 gear and 4 speed I wound it up on I-10 to 5500 rpm back in 1976, at the time I thought I was going around 110, I calculated it out later and wondered why I was still around to talk about it. I'm not too worried because I have swapped out both the front and rear suspension on mine. Of course back when I was driving these things because they were all I could afford I would do some things I would never do today.
Elgemcdlf , I like what you did with your truck. At this time I am planning to put a cv under my ranger but not lower it as much. I am also going to build up a 5.4 quad cam or if I win the Lottery get a new 5.0. As for the rear possibly a Explorer or Mountaineer . Kenny Nunez
