I'm thinking of installing a backup camera and interesting in seeing the mounting locations people have come up with for a small lcd screen. I've looked at the review mirror options and not seeing any that don't look pretty ridiculous.
My truck is a 99 XLT supercab model with the ZF6 transmission and the bucket seats with the console in the middle.
I've done searches and so far all I've found are one or two people who have build over head consoles and they aren't too bad, but a little overkill for what i'm looking for.
Tugly, what head unit is that one? That install doesn't look too bad. I've seen some that look pretty butchered up and was one reason I hadn't considered it before.
If you can rig up a way for the camera to display on a 1.5" OLED screen one of those would fit in one of the holes in a standard gauge pod if you fabricated a face plate for it.
Nice Clean Look !! What model is that ? And did you do the bypass modd so that you can watch movies as you go down the road?
That's a Jensen, but the electronics rhyme with pizza ship. The double-din frame takes a minor bit of finesse to install in our dashes. You need to feel comfortable carving a straight line in plastic with a Dremel tool, but a good trim piece will hide a multitude of sins.
I did configure mine to watch movies on the road, but there are three features that really get the use: Bluetooth, SD card for music, and backup camera. My system can do CD/DVD, but it will never see a disk. SD cards have no moving parts, hold a lot more than a disk, don't skip, and don't need to be ejected unless you want many hours of movies or recorded TV.
It's not that old, but this is sooo decrepit that I'm shopping for a Pioneer with the features I want.
I like that one Richard. I am sold on Pioneer units since the one I have is 12 yrs old and been in 5 different trucks. It is starting to show its age and would love to upgrade to a similar unit.
Hey Tug ! Does that unit have the GPS? Nice install BTW! I have one of the cheap Chinese units in mine. Yer right ! the SD card is the way to go for music no disks layin around in the truck and the Bluetooth for the phone is nice ! You can keep yer eyes on the road!
