well three weeks ago i traded in my regular cab gasser for an '04 CCLB 6.0l w/ 141k on the clock, and finally had the chance to pull my trailer yesterday. pulled like a dream on the ~30 mile trip to the track, but on the way back home while pulling up a slight grade at freeway speeds it started to "sputter" for lack of a better term; i can't describe the sound it would make when it happened.. the truck would surge and it made a sound like a pistol with a silencer on it or like some kind of high pressure injector spitting water on a hot surface.
i did a little searching and read a lot of different symptoms, none exactly like mine.
oasis report shows:
FICM AT 99K
EGR VALVE AT 99K
EGR AND OIL COOLER AT 53K
any ideas? truck runs great.. has a little white smoke on startup and runs sort of rough for just a few seconds if it sits for awhile, but otherwise good. oil pan is pretty wet with oil, haven't had the chance to pinpoint that just yet.
Sounds like you may have a tear in one of your aftercooler connections. Sounds like its building boost then exhausting it through a tear somewhere?.for the sputtering i would pull the egr valve out and check it. It may be sticking. For the white smoke and running rough check your ficm voltage, and when you pull the egr valve out park the truck downhill and check for fluid in the intake manifold. If you find fluid that would indicate a bad egr cooler. Is there a white chalky residue around the degas cap?.take a look at the 6l tech folder, theres lots of good info their.
