I have a 1995 F250 4x4 with a 7.3L and I'm debating whether to lift it or leave it at stock height. My truck is immaculate, and I've had no problems with it which leads me to my question. Is lifting it going to hurt it? I've had it up on blocks to see where a 6 inch lift would put it, and I like how it looks. But I don't want to do something that's going to mess up my truck
Welcome to FTE! It is often said that lifting a D50 will cause ball joints and stuff to wear out faster once its lifted, especially over 6 inches. Theres also guys who say they don't have any problems with it.
But other than that, no it will not harm your truck. That could all be avoided by doing a dana60 swap for your front dana50 if it turns out to be a problem
Thanks, I appreciate your input. If I do decided to lift it, I'm doing all suspension. Any specific lift you'd reccomend?
i have a skyjacker 6in on myn, a lot of guys have done a sky kit , i would do a d60 with any lift, this is my 3 truck that is lifted and d60 is the way to go man trust me ,
I have a 96 F350 CCLB 4x4 with the d60 up front. I went with the ORU's Shackle Reversal Kit and 1" over stock leaf springs. This gave me roughly 3 1/2" of lift all together and I can run 37s with out a problem. Now they do rub just a touch on the driver back side with a full lock to the left, but not bad enough.
I did this cause it gave me the ground clearance that I was looking for and kept me close to stock "ride height" so it wouldn't mess with to many things. I think it even improved the ride a little.
I had thought about going with a 4" lift on top of the ORU's Shackle Reversal Kit but 6 1/2" of LIFT would get you on up there.
An RSK or a all suspension kit from Skyjacker is the way i would go if it were my truck. Don't go the cheap way and use a kit from somewhere like rough/tough country. Too many people have had problems and say the springs flatten out rather quickly
I wouldn't lift the stock TTB axle. Take the resources that you would expend to lift the TTB and use them for a monobeam Dana 60 swap. That way you'll have a much more solid foundation to start playing around with if you wish.
Ok, thanks for all of the advice. I talked to a local guy here in town who does a lot of the lifting and performance stuff in my area, and he agreed with all of this. I've been thinking about a lift for about a year now, and I've decided to get one. I'm going up 6". Now, any recommendations on wheels? I have the xlt package, so I'm thinking 18" chrome wheels. I've been looking at the Fuel Hostages, but I've seen them on too many trucks around town.
