Exhaust ???

I am getting new exhaust in about a week and have a few ???s
I have been researching for a couple of months & have narrowed it down to 2 exhausts (I think). Not a whole lot of feedback on this for our V-10's.
Both Flowmaster cat back. Either the 50 or 70 series. I am just not sure which will sound better/louder. I dont want it real loud, but do want to know its there when I hit the skinny peddle. Hopefully as little drone as possible.
Typically how much louder is the 50 series compared to the 70BB?
All input is appreciated.

I have been researching the same on here. Most who have bought the flowmaster cat back system have the 70 series that come with the kit. The ones who have the 50 series love them and enjoy the loudness of it compaired to the 70. The ones who have the 70 like theirs because its not droney but just a bit louder than stock. So it really is going to come down to your personal choice. 50 louder with some drone. 70 louder than stock with minimal to no drone. (depends on what you think is a comfortable level of drone. I think that I am going to go with 70 series.

Just remember this is a V10. No way will it sound like a rumbly V8. The exhaust mods (cat back) really has no notable performance nor gas improvment. Its only for sound and to say you have it.

I love the sound of my Flowmaster 50 SUV.. But after getting used to it, it almost has me now wanting more.. I have heard some 2 valves with flowmaster 40s and it sounded great, but not sure how the 3 valve would sound?? I dont get a lot of cab noise, but then again I have a regular cab so the muffler is about 3 feet behind the cab..

I have had friends ride in the truck and they were actually shocked that a v10 with aftermarket exhaust was so quiet..

I have the Flowmaster 817446 and I believe it is a 70 series muffler, and I love it. The Flowmaster system I had before this one was aluminized steel and it rotted away, it was also a single in dual out application and does have more drone than the single system. The 817446 is a little more louder than stock which is nice and has a nice rumble when you get on it.

I have listed here a muffler shootout test done by CAR CRAFT & although it doesn't include flowmaster, by comparison, you should be able to get a picture:

I have heard that you need to get the stainless kits. The aluminized steel rotts away quickly.

If you are comparing each of equal grade, you are right, but.....16 ga aluminized pipe will outlive low-grade (purity) 20 ga stainless.

I have never had any problems with aluminized pipe.. It all depends on where you live..

I wasn't speaking from experience, just passing along info. I plan on spending the extra for the stainless kit, its just how I feel.

I'm currently debating on just getting a flowmaster muffler and leaving the stock piping in place for the time being. Figure, since I'm scoring the muffler cheap, I'll see how I like it and decide from there. Has anybody done this and care to share your opinions??

I've debated that too. Not a bad idea IMO.

All you need is a piece of filler exhaust pipe since the aftermarket muffler will be shorter. Just get the proper inlet/outlet offset and inlet/outlet size.

It depends as there are several 50 series mufflers. The closest 50 series to the sound and capacity to the 70BB2 is the 50SUV. Honestly you may just want to go the cheap route and pick up a 50SUV muffler and have it installed in place of the stock muffler. Add an exhaust tip to your current system. If after say a month or two (muffler needs time to break in) its not loud enough then remove the stock resonator for a little extra sound.

The 70BB2 can also be modded to add a little more sound if needed. I welded a plug over one of the chambers on mine to increase sound output. In thread below.
