key on engine off, hear the pump prime. zero PSI.
at idle, 32 psi
turn off, drops straight to zero PSI.

it was suggested that i test stop the return line up and test the pressure again to see if it's the pump check valve. two questions, possibly both dumb.
first, how do i locate the return line?
second, i'm guessing i just do this koeo, and do not attempt to run the truck in this state, is that accurate?
OK, I think I found the return line, I think its the one coming off the passenger side fuel rail.I'll try pinching that and testing pressure when I get home unless someone corrects me between now and then.

quick update-
replaced the fuel regulator, no change.
with the fuel pump test port jumpered it goes up to 40 psi and holds steady. remove the jumper and it drops to zero in about 1-2 seconds.
sounds like i'm looking at a new fuel pump, unless i can find a way to replace just the check valve.

EDIT:
ok, now i'm really confused.
jumped the fuel pump test port. let pressure get to 40 psi and hold stable. pinched off supply line and pulled the test jumper, and it dropped at exactly the same rate, so it looks like i'm loosing pressure elsewhere. it smells a little rich, but my fuel economy is not bad, so i don't think it's a leaky injector. everything i've heard leads me to believe an injector leaking that bad would have it smelling insanely rich and would be hurting my gas mileage very noticeably.

came up with a (fairly ghetto) method of testing the injectors. let's see if someone can confirm my method/results.

removed intake manifold (use caution next time, block ports immediately)
jumped the fuel pump test port
turned ket to run.
first, i tried feeling the injector bodies to see if i could feel one vibrate from fuel flow, no luck.
then, i stuck my telescoping magnet down each intake port, pulled it out and inspected for fuel after each port.
the number 1 port came out wet and smelling of gas.
let everything air out for a few minutes, disconnected the power to the suspect injector and tried again, still got gas on my magnet.

so, it seems injector #1 is spraying with and without power, so it must be leaking, and should be replaced, correct?

would a thorough cleaning possibly fix it, or should i just replace it and be done?

went to oreilly to get a new injector, the one they have has 4 ports, like an EV6, the stock ones i have are the EV1 style. it looks physically interchangeable, will it work if i just change the one? i don't have the cash to change all 8 right now
