I been thought about doing that on my 2wd F350 before. All reports I read aren't WORTH for on road. But they great for off-road ONLY.
Don't it be easier and cheaper get junkyard limited slip posi and rebuilt clutch pack.
I had several trucks with limited slip I love how they work. Sometime it leave 1 lane due tire traction but most time it both side spin.
On wet grass or mud. NEVER EVER STOP. I learn hard way with E350 with 10 drunk pissed guys. Van does pretty good for nonposi but you need stay rolling 10 mph or above you be fine. Gently on gas pedal too.
Try watching CG. I see complete POSI units Drun-to-drum go for $200. Did not help me, my gears are 3.73 they were not stock on the 10.25 sterling. I finally did find a 3 pinion POSI from a 10.50, just the diff for $100, that won't require re-shimming the pinion. Sometimes just a matter of waiting for the right deal.
1st. learn how to drive. if its muddy, dont go there. If its wet, dont go there or buy a 4wd
2cd. yours tires will constantly bark and chirp around any kind of corner and be destroyed. If its wet it can be really dangorous because on turns the rear wants to slide.
3rd. I have welded a bunch of diffs but they were for offroad puposes only. To do it right you need to pull the carrier and preheat with a torch to get a good weld or it will destroy its self.
Take it from a guy who was a wild collage kid also once upon a time,,you will hate it.
Thanks guys. I do my best to stay where i shoukd be with the truck, got a jeep cherokee is the build stages for off road play. Im well aware of how to drive it as is was just looking for a possible cheap upgrade
If you load your truck with it lincoln locked you can kiss your axles goodbye. I would snoop around the JY for a center section with a posi, or just buy one.
X2, very hard on the axles and splines. Much greater chance for breakling one since with a load you do not have ability for the tires to slip; which is what the welded gears has to happen. I would not recommend this for a truck that hauls anything. It does work off-road, but street is asking for trouble.
You should look for a used limited slip rear and just swap that in. Be cheaper than putting a limited slip into your existijng rearend.
