302 engine numbers

302 engine numbers

I have a early to mid 60's 302 block. I need to find the engine numbers for the motor vehicle dept.... any ideas on where they are?

The casting numbers are above the starter. The VIN numbers ? I doubt you've have em on it. If they're there, they'll be on the flat behind the intake manifold.

AFAIK, there is no "motor number" on those engines. That is similar to, if not the same as, the VIN. Numberdummy has commented on this several times. There is no "matching numbers" with later Fords, except some hi-po cars like Shelbys.

"btw: "Numbers matching" is a GM thing, refers to VIN's stamped on engines/transmissions and etc. FoMoCo: The only numbers matching jazz of this time frame applies to Shelby's. "

Also, as per prior post, early to mid '60s SBF is 221, 260 or 289. Does your block have a 6 bolt bell housing pattern?
