I am beginning to rebuild my old 87 with the carbureted 351w and it's been sitting for over 10 years and I want to do a complete rebuild. With the rebuild I want to use performance parts and get good power for fun but keep it somewhat reliable for my daily driver. What do you guys recommend to put into my motor?
Assuming it needs a rebore, some hypereutectic flat top pistons. The stock crank and rods are fine, get them ground/balanced and upgrade the rod bolts. A cam with less than 220 degrees duration @ .050" and closer to 210 will be best in a DD.
Heads are where the power is, a good pair of aftermarket heads is your biggest bang for the buck. Aluminum heads will handle a higher compression ratio and run cooler.
Then a Performer RPM or Weiand Stealth intake and good long tube headers.
