Loss of Oil Pressure, 352
I've recently been going through updates, Pertronics Dizzy, coil, edelbrock intake, 4bbl carb. electric fuel pump.
New oil / filter right after the intake...
Today I replaced the solenoid and installed a new one wire alternator. It fired up ok, ran a tad rough, as to be expected after sitting for 3 weeks, then suddenly.. tap tap... from the driver's side head. I pulled the valve cover, and sure enough, dry.
Looks like low or no oil pressure. Idiot light non working, so I plan on getting a gauge set up, just wondering what sequence of attack you fellers would take to narrow down the suspects.
FYI, the heads were nice and quiet for about 30 miles after dizzy, intake/carb job.... thats when I parked it for the alternator and solenoid.
Thanks.

Oil...
Thanks!
It did come up a bit.
Thats a very likely suspect, I was going to try to spin it tomorrow and see
what I get at the O-pump. I don't recall it moving much when I pulled the old
one, but anything that got touched is now under scrutiny.
What holds that shaft in there? seems like a lot of play.

There is a snap ring near the top of the shaft to keep it from being pulled out of the oil pump drive slot. This ring hits the bottom on the land where the distributor sits close to when installed. Many times one rebuilds and then doesn't move the snap ring over and new shafts usually don't come with one installed.
