When had one kid so scared one night, he did without putting his hand in! We even had the bucket of water ready. He must have dreamed we did it.

I thought this was going to be a nasty picture of a human tail but not a tale.

It might work with a kid who is so soundly asleep you can pick them up and move them without them waking. For an adult, not so much:

They tried that on Mythbusters and it didnt work. Now putting shaving cream in a sleeping persons hand and tickling their nose does work.

Speaking of "Old Wive's Tails".......Growing up i was always told that it was very very bad to pour cold water on a hot engine. I guess there is a chance the block could crack?

If that were true how can all those vehicles on youtube be driving under water without their engines cracking? There's many types of vehicles in many different water hazards on that site. Here is just three of them.

Jeep seems to go anywhere, even under water, amazing - YouTube

I think it's bad to pour cold water in a hot engine, like if you overheat the engine and blow the coolant, you should wait until the engine is cool before you fill the coolant.

Pouring cold water on a hot engine isn't a problem.

I do know of two people that had cracked engines because of adding cold water to a engine that lost its coolant and another the somebody put a big cooler of ice on the engine to help cool it down because it had blown a hose.
