The reason I ask is I have never had the boost gauge, I have EGT and didn't really think I needed a boost gauge. Yesterday I thought why not try a air pressure gauge? So i connected up a regular low pressure gauge rated 50# (didn't think I would go over that, well it didn't work worth a dam the needle was all over the place.
A boost gauge isn't as needed as the egt gauge it's just a nice to know thing especially if troubleshooting a lack of power. A regular air pressure gauge may not have the reducing orifice in it to regulate the needle movement.
So i have a oil filled gauge to try. I changed gauges and found my boost was a little higher than i thought it would be, the gauge was very steady and topped out at about 25 lbs.
yep a oil filled gauge will give you a steadier needle. With your stage I's you should get more than 25lbs of boost. I would think that it would be between 30-35 but I don't have any experience with the superchip programmer to know what it will do. With my mods and stock injectors I can push 28 lbs.
Here is a pic of the gauge. so it was actually a little over 30lbs
I guess a gauge that only goes to 50lbs would give a more accurate reading it may have been a little over 25lbs. I think I'll try and do a video if i can stabilize the camera, an try another gauge.
I never drive with my foot on the floor or 3500 rpm for that matter. So trying to multi task with the truck going like a bat out of hell and me trying to watch the gauge and the road, not to mention keeping an eye out for cops.
I might have missed it Rich but where did you connect the gauge, map line? You can think of boost as a blower (turbo) air into the motor. Every once in awhile I clean my water injection nozzle then check to see how it sprays water. I use a 12v air pump and a cone shaped attachment and blow air into the line. My coolingmist is run on boost and when the gauge gets above 8 lbs the nozzle hanging over my fender starts blowing water out.
