so I have a 79 f100 and the blinkers do not work. fuses have been swapped, but I got no action inside or out. Are there any replaceable parts, besides bulbs and fuses?

thanks!

The turn signal switch in the steering column is replaceable. Have you tried replacing the flasher itself?

Check to make sure you are getting voltage to the swich before going to the trouble of pulling the steering wheel.

when you say replace the flasher it self, do you mean the bulb? or the entire unit that under the head light? I am new to this so forgive me.

Where exactly would I check for power?

Thanks!

It's a round relay possibly in the fuse panel or secured somewhere under the dash. Part #552.

As far as which switch from the link you provided one is for a auto & the other is for a manual shift.

If you do replace the switch make sure you make a diagram of the connector. You will have to remove all the wires from the switch side and they need to go back exactly in the same order. I not only draw one but also take pics just to be sure; there are NO shortcuts.

Before you replace the switch check all your fuses; both sides of the holder.

Grounds are another main cause for problems. There is a ground wire to chassis at each corner light.

If nothing is working, including hazards, then it is probably a power issue.

oldstyle, thanks for the response. I have a manual so I need both components that are for the manual setup correct?

I will check the fuses, but I imagine if they were out I would not have any power to the rear signals (which I do now but they are stuck in the ON position)
I also will check the ground for all four corners and the fuses for the front blinkers as those show no signs of life.

If the switch was good but didn't cancel (shut off) when you turn the wheel then you just need the replacement plastic part. $10 or 15.00

If the switch is bad then just the replacement switch. $$$

If you don't have anything up front make sure you are connected to a good ground for testing.

Sound more like a bad switch but I am no expert...

the rear blinkers do not turn off at all, the entire back lights are lit, both the red and the white.

Well sounds like you have your work cut out for you. Those are separate circuits so a previous owner (PO) has done some rewiring; probably in the "trailer light wiring" area.

You will find the factory schematics here:

Have you had this truck long? Did everything work at one time? I would start at the rear and make sure any add-ons are removed to help eliminate cross wiring. Any crimp connectors are suspect and should be redone and once you are sure they are correct should be soldered and shrink wrapped.

If there has been any critter damage under the dash, chewed wires ect., fix those too.

Do the brake lights work? Tail lights? Are there any signs of power to the front signal/marker sockets?

It's time consuming but you'll trace it out and get it fixed. Sorry I don't have any real solid "this is where the problem is" answers.

got the truck recently. Not sure about the history and all. I do see some random wires strewn about but I am hesitant to mess with it as everything but the blinkers seems to work.

Besides the blinkers not working, I also seem to have no lights in the dash, assuming these trucks had that.
