coolant filter questions

I'm looking to install a coolant filter in my truck, already have the base and mounted it. I plan to hook it up to the port in the side of the water pump. My question is the return line, can I hook into the small line the goes from the radiator to the reservoir? If I can I'd rather do that than drill a new hole in the bottle. Any and all suggestions are welcomed.

I'd just hook it up in the heater lines, be so much easier and it works great.

Mine collected so much crap in 2 months, I need to replace it. I was working on it so I rinsed it off and so much crap fell out.

Make a bypass line for it off the line going to your heater core. Trust me if you rig it full flow you will hate your heater. I used the napa base and donaldson endurance filters.

Getting the hoses right for everything is really the toughest part. I am just going to go buy all new hoses for the heater core and bypass and do it all again with some shutoff valves.

I skipped the shutoff valves, they are just more places to leak. Just pinch off the lines when you change the filter. Mines returned into the heater hose running into the water pump and fed from the head on the drivers side rear.

Where did you end up mounting your filter?

It's on the drivers side of the radiator, I'll just put a pic up, remember my batteries are no longer under the hood. May be room with the battery there, didn't look that close means mine isn't. It's actually not over the top of the ic tube, that pic is hard to tell that. It's right beside though.

I mounted mine with some aluminum rack stock I had laying around and used the outboard alternator mount bolts to hold it. Makes it convenient to plumb to the heater supply/return. It fits pretty well right there and it's relatively easy to change.

I have mine mounted similar to 07Wolfie, after reading I agree a bypass line from the heater lines. Which is the supply and which is the return line?

The supply comes from the head and it returns to the water pump.

Yeah I completely forgot about your battery relocation.

mine is being fed from the side port on the water pump and returned to the small degas bottle hose. Nothing wrong with doing it this way that I can see and really easy.

Are you using the hose on the degas bottle that is intended for overflow?

So if you overheat where would the coolant go? Would it blow the bottle up or just blow the cap off. I'm sure you have thought about that. It does seem like a good simple place to return it though.
