What kind of ride issues you had?

Yeah that's pretty rough. However, having been in a similar situation here locally with something I sold, I did, indeed give the seller a full refund. Albeit, it was a smaller piece and wasn't a $400 price, but I can see both sides of the coin. Really just kind of sucks for both guys. Either your FIL has to take it on the chin and trust this guy isn't taking him for a ride on something he may have ruined himself, or he looks like he isn't willing to help the guy out. Either way he is stuck with a piece that he can't sell. The "Sold as Is" stuff is BS. Nobody would have felt any different about the deal just because he said it was "sold as is". That situation sucks for all involved... All in all, I think he was being fair in offering the guy half his money back. He isn't going above and beyond, but he certainly isn't trying to screw the guy (especially since he was being honest and said he didn't know much about the axle in the first place).

I can't believe that the mods, locked him off the forum though without even getting his side of the story. The poster could have just been trying to rip him off and they didn't even give him a chance to defend himself....Cumminsbillies....

Here is 02 I think any purchase from a private individual should commonly be sold as is (Buyer Beware) of coarse if he has implied it could be returned any time he was not satisfied (which is very unlikely) If the person is running a business it could be different (not that it should be)

typical cummings forks.
i think it is pretty self explanatory that when you buy used parts, it is "as is" especially after you inspect the parts pay for them, and take them home.

then wait 3 weeks to report a problem with the parts you inspected and said they were ok?
total BS.
and total BS on the part of the moderators for locking the seller out so he can not even give his say on what when down.

No, Talyn, its 32 1/2" from the back of the bed to the back edge of the back rail.

The mule was 30" and Jose I had a lot of 'chucking' as they call it in the RV business. Its when you are going over bumps and the 5th wheel slams down on the pickup. I bought a Trailer Saver hitch that has air bags and shocks and it solved the problem. Installing the hitch rails I learned something, the directions said the 32 1/2" was for a long bed and short bed. So, the two foot shorter bed is two foot shorter in the front of the bed. I always thought it was in the back.

The reason I asked about your rail install was because I actually do remember a little about the install of my rails, I still have CRS though and I'll just take the 5th if you call me out. I was able to find a website for my Hitchhiker at that time, it's made in Canada and no dealers here. I found some very good install instructions that listed install measurements for different model trucks as well as different models of their hitches.
I just went out and measured mine and it measures 30 in. to the back edge of the rail to the back edge of the bed, and would be exactly 2 1/2 inches more to the center of the rail where the bolts go through. IIRC the pin would be exactly between the rails and exactly centered over the rear axle. I also remember some people installed the rails up to 2 inches forward or backward depending what they wanted to accomplish. (not recommended though) forward of coarse would adjust more weight forward to even out or put more weight forward , and back a couple of inches doesn't seem to me would make any sense at all unless it would give a little more room if a person with a short bed and no slider hitch and needed a little more clearance. If the mare is a short bed most likely most of this would not apply IDK You said they are the same so I guess it would apply

The mare is a long bed just like the mule. Twelve page instructions came with the rails and I went to the page that listed my truck. When I measured the mule at 30" and the instructions called for 32 1/2" I thought I would just go by the instructions thinking that the mule might have been wrong. You tell me your at 30" inches, this is confusing.

I think you did the right thing Glenn. I remember when I bought the kit the RV store sales person got me the kit that had been opened and he may have came up with instructions that were not correct. IDK it is confusing. Here is a video I found and it shows 32 1/2

Random question, but what is the part number and where did you purchase your headlights you have on your truck? I've been searching around for lights for mine and Aaron's trucks and haven't come up with anything.... Thanks for putting up with the random question! You can either pm me or email me at joshgallant80@gmail.com.
