on my truck, is old and crappy and noisy as........all get out. Yup, both the driver's side and pass side mirrors make a lot of noise whenever I go over a rough patch of pavement. I have a 96 150 with xl trim package but I have upgraded the bumper, front grille, light bezels to chrome from a donor xlt. so I am thinking of getting these (please copy and paste the link into your browser rather than giving me grief for not posting a photo) 96 1996 Ford F150 Mirror - Body Mechanical & Trim - Action Crash, ****, Dorman, Replacement, Left, Left - Driver Side, Left and Right, Right, Right - Passenger Side - PartsGeek
These are cheap enough and would compliment the xlt chrome package nicely. But they appear to have a connection for an interior toggle type manual adjuster (vs electric). So I may have ti go to a JY and find a couple of interior toggle mirror adjustors, unless this is just some sort of permanent internal "foot" and the mirrors adjust from pressure on the corners/top/bottom. Has anyone else done this? Suggestions? Can I take the current mirrors apart and tighten them so the stop making such a racket?
Thanks,
phil
I think what you're seeing as toggle adjusters, are actually the inner mounting point of the mirror. If you remove the inner door panel there is a single screw that helps hold the mirror rather than the outer sheet metal taking all the stress. On my truck, these screws had come loose and the mirrors vibrated badly because of it. Try reinstalling the screws before ordering new mirrors.

I would also try this first. ^^^ they loosen up after awhile.
These mirrors never came with "toggle adjusters". They were either electric or manual (as in pushing on the edges to adjust like you said).
Thanks for the info guys. I will attempt this soon. I am going to replace the door speakers anyway so I might as well have a day of fixing, tightening, lubing etc. all the mechanisms inside the door. the truck is a 96 and I am positive this has never been done, might eliminate more squeaks than just the mirror. while the panels are off I will probably lay them out on the deck and give them a serious cleaning as well. I have already purchased new screw insert type panel clips (with plastic push surrounds) from bronco graveyard. they were the only place I could find real ford front-of-rear leaf spring hangers so I threw those in because they wouldn't be adding anything to the shipping cost of the heavier item thanks again!
