ordering

Ok im going to order my head gaskets. Do i need rear main seal or is it just a top end repair?

Are you just replacing head gaskets?? Are you turbo'd? If you are or plan on it, spend the money on studs, even if you have to borrow the money from somebody.

That being the case, an upper end kit will get you by.

I need head gaskets and yes im turboed. So i can get studs and a top end kit and not have to worry abkut a rear main seal and etc?

Yes im replacing head gaskets. I can get studs. If i get studs i can do a top end repair and not have to worry about a rear main seal and all that?

If you have the engine out, and depending on mileage. Check if there is a groove worn where rear main seal rides. If so you might want to put a speedi-sleeve on the crank, cheap insurance. Prevents having to pull something to do it later.

I havent pulled the motor its still in the truck. So im just going to do studs and head and top end gaskets

I wouldnt do a single thing with heads with the engine in the truck, its a PITA....a MAJOR...PITA

I agree, its a major PITA to do in the truck... But its not impossible, and really not much more of a PITA than pulling the engine and doing them while its out. The only benefit to that is that you can clean everything up a lot better...

If you do it in the truck, do a search on doing studs in the truck. Others have but there is clearance issues on passenger rear. I did mine with engine out so can't really give full details. If you can't find I can help some.
