Ok, our 2005 Explorer has an issue with reverse. My wife told me about it 4 years ago but it never happened for me so I dismissed it as her being crazy. Anyway, the other day I needed to back out of a parking spot and noticed that the vehicle did not go into reverse. A little tap on the gas pedal and then it bumped into reverse. This is the same issue wife has been complaining about for the past 4 years. Not really noticing any other issues with shifting. It's a 4.0L, with 4 spd automatic. No codes. Any suggestions? Obviously hoping not to need a total rebuild.
There may be several causes for these displayed problems.
The least of which is poor maintenance. When was the last filter and fluid service completed (>4yr I bet).
This type of behaviour can be atributed to low fluid pressure (leaks), given that with a rise in RPM the gears shift....Worn bushings and sticking solenoids are worth looking into. ..... Philip.
