I was wondering what kind of gas mileage you guys with the 94 body style rangers 2wd with 2.3 and a manual are getting. And are there any big problems with the tricks I'm looking at getting one cause I hate driving small cars and would rather drive a truck and my 8 mpg f250 just doesn't cut it anymore
well i'm sure others will chime in with better figures but i average about low 20s city mid 20s highway, with a bit better in the warmer temps....
all on crap 87 octane ethanol laced gas.
course a ranger with a 2.3 can't do 1/2 as much as the f250...
O i understand the ranger wont be able to pull, haul, or out power my f250. Not getting rid of the f250 just looking to buy another truck for better gas milege than my f250. Plus I have wanted a ranger for a while. And now I want something for better gas milage that way i can start putting more money towards my other trucks.
Mine's a 95 but I get 20.something mixed. I think it could use a tune up though and I run the hell out of it. I have to floor it and downshift to go uphill on the highway, and sometimes I just have to go slower.
Check the rear spring schackles for excessive rust when looking at trucks.
I hear that on thats pretty much all Ford trucks though pretty much everyone i have bought has rusted out or were rusted out when i got it. So I have replaced a few. It's simple things like that I'm not really worried about. I'm not very good at body work yet so I would rather find a really clean body with a motor in almost any shape. I can do motor work and suspension, I just really despise body work.
definitely rust is an issue. try to find an extended cab if you can. they are getting rare these days. in fact any mid 90's vintage rangers in good shape for sale are getting rare, at least around here. every lawn service in the area wants them...
Ya I want to find an extended cab for the space. One of my buddies had a single cab one time and and I tried riding in it, and I'm a bit of a taller guy, and he had to move the seat forward cause of a sub box he had and my knees were pretty much always on the dash. So I'm going to be looking out for an extended cab over the rest
