First, WELCOME to FTE!
Second, yeah, Mike is the "go to guy" for tuning the V10 around here. He's not only the sponsor of this forum, but also does his absolute best to take care of people.
His tunes are his own, dyno tested, and if you want anything changed he is happy to make those changes.
I'm very happy with my SCT X3.

With all these reviews from guys on this site along with their experience with dealing with Mike. Yes it costs more. But after a quick and simple search and a whole lot of negative reviews come up for gforcechips I would think before paying $70 and a statement like 4-7 mpg improvement is a good selling gimmick.

But, that's the great thing about America you can spend your money how you see fit. Then complain about how you got ripped off even with the warning signs flashing in front of you.

With all the problems I had with physically connecting a "chip" to the PCM on my '96 t-bird, and the price back in 1998 being $250 for a plain canned tune which hardly did anything, I just would never go back to a chip instead of using a hand-help tuner.
The PCM in my '96 t-bird 4.6L, and my '01 V10 are basically the same thing. Cleaning the contacts in the PCM, and then physically putting the PCM back into the same location with the chip installed, and vibration and corrosion causing having over the years, it's just not worth the trouble in my opinion.
But talk to Mike, he might not have a problem with it.

With all due seriousness 305dgar if you're not already investigate Mike @ 5 Star Tunes products you owe it to yourself to do so ASAP. Besides being one amazing guy and outfit to deal with there couldn't be a more simple way to change the factory PCM programming. The added benefit of optional tunes being available and changeable in virtually no time to suit your changing needs makes this almost a no-brainer.
Sure one can change out an EPROM chip but why? With something available that's a plug n' play device why dig into something unnecessarily?

Go with the hand held tuner. I thought I would only use one tune but now I have three in my tuner and four others on my laptop. I tow alot and in the mountains a different tune is amazing especially coupled with a higher octane fuel.
Go with Mike at 5 Star. I had a Diablo Sport tuner and it is nothing compared to the SCT from 5 Star.
