My Back Up Camera install.....

One of the things to accomplish today was to install the back up camera and hook it up to my Edge Insight.
I bought the camera from this ebay seller. It is a ccd camera not the cheaper cmos sensor cam.
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
I chose this because I really wanted to "see" what was behind me plus with the Insight not only does the camera turn on in reverse but you have the option to turn it on any time. That way when you going down the road you can "Watch" the dirt bikes fall over on the trailer!!
I didn't document taking the drivers side interior panels apart as this is found elsewhere just basically where it's mounted and what the thing looks like.
The two issues I had were;
1. Having to drill a hole to get the rca cable outside. Do not drill in the knockout hole just below the left barn door hinge. It is to low.... I drilled a hole about 3 inches above the hinge and fished the rca cable through. Used a grommet supplied to close the hole.
2. The biggest issue was finding switched power in the rear of the truck. There just isn't any inside.. (I really wanted to wire up everything inside the truck but it didn't work out)
Well there is one switched power point, the power off the trailer plug.
Per "swheeler" I pulled the 7 way plug from behind the plate and spliced into the power there. Works like a charm.
You will notice that I originally mounted the camera to the trim above the bumper. I had clearance when I test fit the camera but it ended up being covered up by the edge of the barn door somehow. Don;t ask me how.....
In the end the plate mounting worked out fine.
So here we go.
This is the camera by the trim

This is where I picked up the power from the trailer loom

Here is the first mounting point and the wiring in the plate hole. I looked grat on the screen but the door got in the way somehow...I know, I know...Duct tape once...drill second

The final mounting spot on the plate..

Here's the picture on the insight. It looks really clear. I imagine I'll be mounting one of there on the camper so I can watch what's going on behind when towing. Maybe when I have more time I try and drill a few lower holes in the trim and see if I can get it to fit a bit higher.....

Sweet setup, what did you use for the display in the excursion, is it a dash mount, windshield mount or radio mount?

I like the color option and the clarity is nice.

The monitor is my Edge Insight. It's in a window mount but will be in a dash pod Tues.
Had to have it with the 6.0L. Must monitor all the temps and stuff.
I like it since it has the back up camera option for reverse AND I can turn the camera on any time I want to!
Now for a camera on the back of the camper and maybe on on the front bumper!!
The company I used for the camera has a jumper that when plugged in will swap the image for a front mounted camera. So right is right and left is left.

I have the same camera and haven't mounted yet. Do you think if you would have drilled a little lower it would have worked? I thought the doors would have hit the camera in your original spot. I might try putting it a little lower and see if I can't get it to work.

I will be trying a little lower next chance I get.
Still have to finish the sub install first.

As I am running the video through my Edge Insight I tapped power at a constant source so I can look at the camera anytime. Not just in reverse.
I imagine you'll have to track down a reverse wire at a taillight. I don't think there is one at the trailer plug.

I just went through this, and the easiest place for me to find it was in the loom along the inside frame rail, just under the drivers seat. Forward of that it disappears into a larger loom, and I thought it was harder to work with there.
