TRANNY PROBLEMS

here we go I am in NH towing my 5th wheel and tranny temps start to rise I get to about 230 DEG and now I am worried never got that high so I pull over and allow the tranny to cool check things out I cant see anything that indicates a problem. 45 min later I am back on the road. 30 min back on the road the tranny temp spikes to 245 DEG now I am feaking out and have nowhere to pull over. no shoulder no nothing. I have to drive it to pull it over. good luck mostly down hill I investigate and find the cooler is not working plugged I assume so I bypass the stock cooler and run on just my aftermarket cooler until I get home. temps stay around 190-200 I get home blow out the plugged cool and get metel filings outof the cooler I clean it out and reinstall it. I has new mobil 1 ATF no shifting problems should I start looking for a tranny ? I cant afford the BTS or JW I am going to have to rebuild of new stock any suggestions? I want to campin june pulling the 13000 pound camper please let me know of suggestion any of you tranny guys help
Thanks

With metal in there it is only a matter of time before it lets go. I would pull it and find out what is going south.

If I had known about BTS I would have found a way to go that route. I have had my tranny rebuilt twice at 2k a pop. Which would have just about bought a lifetime tranny. I am sill thinking if it goes out again it will be taking a trip to Lead Hill.

They may seem expensive, but you get what you pay for. I burned up the stock tranny in my truck @ 70,000 miles, and a factory Ford Reman tranny @ 140,000 miles. I bit the bullet and had a BTS tranny built for me, and have been totally pleased with it. I now have 238,000 miles on my truck, and no signs of any tranny problems.
I also know that the factory tranny cooler for the 7.3's are small. If you're pulling a 5th wheel, or any trailer for that matter, it would be wise to upgrade to a bigger cooler such as the tranny cooler for the 6.0. It's about 3 times the size of the stock tranny cooler for the 7.3, but bolts on in the same location. You'll just have to modify your fittings on the cooler lines.
