Valve cover torq spec
Put the clutch on hold, pops is coming up from Houston with some ramps and a transmission stand next week. Meanwhile, I'm gonna do shocks and valve covers. Can't find it in manuals, does anyone happen to know the spec for valve covers in ft lbs? Pulled em this eve and 4/5 on each side were hand tight, explaining the oil all over...

According to the '66 factory workshop manual, page 8-248, right hand column, lower box, torque specs for 352 rocker covers are 10 - 12 foot pounds. For 240 and 300 I-6 engines it's 7 - 9 foot pounds. You didn't specify which engine you have. What frequently happens is that someone will over torque or unevenly torque the valve covers and warp them - causing leaks. Make sure your valve cover is completely flat on the bottom. Watch out for the areas surrounding the bolt holes. Square it up if it isn't. Use a high quality, correct fitting gasket and make sure you've removed all of the old one prior to installing the new one. You will probably want to use a high quality gasket sealer, too. Good luck!
