I found this little article that I thought some of us who are a little shy of knowledge in TC works may get some info here! It is writen so even I could understand the works!! Enjoy !
Great link! I had a fuzzy idea of how these things worked, but I learned more here. You inspired me to find an animation of the torque converter. [LINK]

Thanks Smokie for the posting !! You had my attention with "T.C. for Dummies" I am kinda like a torque converter that won't lock up or overheats doing so I have been trying to learn everything I can about t.c. and thanks to this post it helps clear up a few things I wasn't clear about.
So whats the weak link in a TC. They seem so simple, how do they "fail"
I'm guessing the vane designs differ from one to the other - hence the focus on efficiency. I would imagine some are more susceptible to melt-down than others. I wonder how many transmissions have been worked on when a fluid-swap would suffice.
Hey Tug!! That was a pretty good link! Enjoyed that!! Now I have to fig out all this stall stuff and how it pertains to me ! I just got back my chip from DP and they adjusted my 80E shifting! Gonna install tommorrow and see how that puppy shifts now!! Maybe I can take off the neck brace now!!

I hope you don't mind I turned down the volume, my eyes are still echoing.
I always wondered about that - I hear a lot about people asking for softer shifts. I have the HD4R100 and that bad boy reacted to my 60e tune, it felt like somebody was whacking the back of my seat with a wrecking ball. F6 and a couple of emails saved the day. I ordered the 80e later and asked Jody to apply what we learned from the 60e. 80e is now my wife's favorite tune - what's that say?
Well if the wifey likes it it can't be to bad! The 40 and 60 tow not so bad when hauling my fiver ! Better for the trans with the hard lockup! But drivin around in the 80E down on the Fl back roads this winter was lockup at 47 and out at 40 !!! Just a little much for these old folks!!! Maybe tomorrow we will see if Jody hit the jackpot!!

That is a cool video I dig the music too!! Now Allison builds some nice stuff. That looked like a converter for a big rig. Did you notice it has bearing on the stator hub. Our 4r100 have thrust washers from the factory. If I am not mistaken.
Kuzz ! He is suppose to take out the harsh unlock at 40 mph. The lockup was not to bad but the unlock was killlin me! The TC would lockup at 47 and unlock at 40 and a lot of the roads I drive are around 45 so it would be in and out with my neck taken the jerkin !! Gonna install in the AM and will let ya know how it runs then!! keepin my fingers crossed!!

Well I ask because I am going to get my pcm flashed with 80 but I am just not sure if I am going to go with 80e or 80t . Well let us know how it works out for you.

The 80e lockup is about 35 and 4th gear is 45 MPH on mine. 80e is not for towing. 80t shifts at higher RPMs and is for pulling light stuff, I think the recommended limit is 7K-9K. My sig has my tunes and they all serve a purpose. For those in the mountains and you still have your EBPV, get the decel tune! It doesn't have the manly brack-brack of a Jake Brake, but that hiss still has a menacing sound: I call it the Snake Brake, and that sumbich works!
I put in my F5 last fall for my tow down to Fl. When I pulled out here in the hills of NC I put it in 60T. But as I went down the road I had a few short grades to pull amd my EGT seem like they were gonna be a little higher than I liked. I was heading for my 6 mile hard pull and I knew that I would be getting way to high before I got to the top . So I dropped into 40T and she looked real good still had plenty of power to haul that fiver up the grade! When I was down in the flats of GA just for giggles I tried to tow in 80E. NOT!! Even on the flats the EGT's started to climb. I put it in 60T which seemed to do OK on flat ground. Last fall I had a new trans made for me by a shop in Waynesville NC ! They said they were makin it to tow and it performed great! It had a billet TC made by a company in Asheville NC ! Talked with the owner of the shop and he said the TC had all the latest updates they also massaged a few other things as well and said I should be very happy with the performance. They were right.
