Stalling at acceleration
good luck- keep us posted.
I took the float out and squeezed that little tab with a pair a pliers, that helped some. I think its roadworthy, as long as I ain't in no hurry. My Datsun called it quits on me, so the ford will have to get me A to B, and I think it can do it. Around here you pretty much own the road anyway, here in a couple months I'll get myself a carburetor and distributor. Gonna have to buy a slightly earlier carb then '72, because of the manual choke. Which this here ford is the first rig of mine to have a manual, and I like it. Anyway, the carbs are about the same. Just need a distributor that ain't vacuum only.
Probably nobody watching this post anymore, but just thought I'd give an update.
Still running on the old distributor and autolite 1100 carburetor. One day I had an idea: I took a screwdriver and turned the lean-rich adjustment a quarter turn to the richer. All problems are history. Hit my fuel mileage from 18 down to 15 MPG though, not real happy about that, been experimenting to see if I can get it a little leaner and it will still run alright. Accelerator pump still may not be working right, if I floor it it will just die if I'm in a parking lot, and hesitate pretty bad if I'm already moving. Took it to the big city last weekend over Stevens pass, 600 mile round trip, and it was 3rd gear climbing up both ways. Its not that steep of a pass, but the truck really seems to be lacking in power at higher RPMs and on long hills. As you can imagine, I stayed of the big freeways the whole time I was in the city. My old slow truck could never compete with a modern day freeway. I'm not sure if all these 6's have this little power, or if its just that lousy carburetor. Or lousy distributor. But what I was looking for when I bought it was cheap wheels, and its served me very well for that purpose. I love my old ford.
All my co-workers and friends thought I was crazy for even thinking about taking my old beater ford on such a long trip, but guess what? I made it, totally trouble free! I remember my father once saying "If its a ford, it'll get you there." Truer words hardly ever spoken.
