Hey guys i got a few quick questions. First I have a 92 150 5.0l 4x4. I'm attempting to replace my oil pan but I'm having trouble breaking some of the bolts free! Mainly the small 10mm bolts. Any advice on getting them out?
Second thing is it looks like there is a metal guide if you will that sits in the lip of the pan? Goes between the bolts and the pan its self. They look rotted away and I was wondering if I needed them and if so can I order a new set?
Those metal rails are there to reinforce the lip of the oil pan, to keep it from warping / leaking when the retaining bolts are installed / tightened, dare I say torqued to specs? Naw, I always just tighten them down!
But yes, they are needed and can be ordered with the new pan & gasket. I would recommend you get the premium silicone oil pan gasket with the anti-crush inserts. It will really help with weepage in the long term.
As to the bolts, perhaps a bit of PB blaster and some soak time?
They are the reinforcement rails, that is all I have called them. yes they are available seperatly, but most of the time the new oil pans come with them (Marine engines are what I am 100% familiar with in this respect, perhaps the automotive oil pans are sold differently or with a different parts make up in the box)
You should be able to source these at a junkyard as well. New would be nice however as it sounds like you are dealing with a rust prone area and the J/Y ones might be as bad.
