Well hell, why would you work for free for a giant corporation that's making money hand over fist?

Because the site was not owned by a giant corporation when I became a moderator... It doesnt cost me anything to be a moderator... Other then some heart ache.

It costs to be a supporter of a site...

Thank goodness for the giant corporation that formed this site. They have saved me a small fortune. I feel that if their capital investment can help me out that much, I can support/tip them for it. Then my CPA can write that off against earnings, helping me even more.

On a nonfinancial note, you also get a chance to communicate with some really excellent people.

Supporting FTE is a win-win for me!

LOL
Whatever helps you sleep at night.

It doesn't cost me anything to do my job, but I still expect to get paid for it. Even If I figured the time it takes to moderate for a year at minimum wage, my $20 membership looks pretty cheap.

In the interest of historical correctness............

The site was created mostly by a single guy (Ken Payne) and sponsored by a business (Motorhaven) not a giant corporation. Once it was up running for about 7-8 years and getting a lot of hits, the giant corporation bought it.

The main reason besides feeling as though I have contributed to keep it around, I know not needed, is for the perks really. More PM's and messages ability to add attachments, larger pics, and more pics. If some of the "other" forums I frequent would allow me to "support" them in donations rather than just in commentary I would as well, to hope that they would continue to be around for a place to gather and discuss amongst fellow enthusiasts. Plus I like shirts...other forums I have to buy them so it's really the same in my mind.
