Looks like you've got a couple issues. Agree on getting an oil sample. As to the HPOP leak, just above that snap ring is a plug that may have a blown o-ring. Also, look real hard at the HPOP oil lines coming out of the HPOP. I've had leaks at both places. If it's one of the HPOP connectors, you'll need a tool to remove the oil lines. The plug behind the pump is an easy fix. But, you better use either guzzles o-rings or fords. A similar looking o-ring won't work!
yea, its leaking right around that snap ring or out of the bottom of the HPOP. i haven't been driving it since i noticed it was making oil, could the hpop be junk?
It's probably a plug or line leaking and pump is fine.
This is not the source of the extra oil. No fuel is in the engine until the heads. The only real sources are injectors, orings or cups. O'Rings should result oil in fuel, not the other way around, but it could be leaking in when shut off or running in cylinder and past the rings when it off. Could be a cracked cup allowing fuel behind it and up into the VC? Or a bad injector dumping fuel when its off, but the amount your seeing should have caused it to hydro-lock by now. Also possible, but not likely, the head is cracked allowing fuel in the oil.
Pull the fuel filter and let us know how it looks.
I see where the OP is goin with the HPOP. He fills the oil pan cavity to F mark (or close), drives it abit, lets it settle, to get accurate reading, just to be surprised, its "making oil". If the HPOP was bad/leaking down internally, then yes, i can see how its "making oil".

I dont...the only thing in the hpop is oil. It has to mix with something else to "make oil". The only place it can do this is somewhere in the heads or injectors.

The HPOP reservoir or even the whole system doesn't hold enough oil to raise the level in the pan 2 inches.
Definetly coolant would, but wouldn't fuel cause a viscosity/oil color issue as well, as coolant does? I dont remeber the OP say'n anything about oil discolor/sludge looking..etc

Fuel thins the oil, but it looks the same. Diesel is just real thin oil itself.
